Description
Abstract
This feature class comprises descriptive annotation for lots, blocks, and parcels in Prince George's County, Maryland.

Purpose
These annotations are used to help identify the legal description of lots, blocks and parcels as shown on the property layer. There are three subtypes that differ in size, from smallest to largest - Lot_Anno, Parcel_Anno, and Block_Anno. These annotations are maintained as part of the property dataset by the M-NCPPC GIS staff, are derived from recorded plat ,and deed information and have a reference scale of 1:2400.

Lot - this sort of annotation is captured as needed for cartographic purposes to sufficiently identify the lot number sequence within a given block. A lot is an area of land which may be legally used, developed, or built upon, as designated on a subdivision recorded plat. An outlot is a piece of land that remains within a subdivision but which does not meet the minimum zoning requirements and so is not usable as a legal building site. Outlot annotation is always captured and is unique to its subdivision plat.

Parcel - this sort of annotation is captured for all parcels, whether part of a subdivision or not. A parcel is either a tax parcel (or acreage) or an area of land within a subdivision recorded plat which is preserved for non-building purposes. The parcel number or letter is unique to the parcel's tax map page or subdivision plat as applicable. An outparcel is a parcel of land designated on a subdivision plat which lacks adequate public facilities and is therefore not usable as a legal building site. Outparcel annotation is captured for all outparcels, and is unique to its subdivision plat.

Block - this sort of annotation is captured as needed for cartographic purposes to sufficiently identify the block within a given subdivision recorded plat. A block is a group of one or more lots and/or parcels abutting one side of a street and lying between any two of the following: the nearest intersecting streets, railroad rights-of-way, unsubdivided properties, rivers, live streams, or any other barriers to the continuity of development. Block annotation is unique to its subdivision plat.

Constraints on accessing and using the data:

As a matter of routine, annotation for every lot number is not captured. This is to help avoid conflicts with annotation on other layers such as zoning which normally are displayed with property. Instead, only enough lot annotation is captured such that the lot sequence in a given block may be easily inferred. All parcels are annotated. All block designations are also captured, except in rare cases where there is not sufficient space. All annotations are left off of property shapes that are involved with a recorded plat of condominium.
