Exisitng Land Use for Prince George's County, Maryland

This layer was created to satisfy the requirements of the State of Maryland Water Resource Element (WRE) plan. This is the Planning Department's first attempt at creating a Land Use and because of the limitations of WRE this layer did not meet all of the needs of the department. Further refinement is planned but at this time only the existing land use attribute has been approved. The existing land use designations were derived almost entirely from visual inspection of 2007 6-inch pixel ground resolution orthophotography from the State of Maryland. A review was completed using in house 2009 6-inch pixel ground resolution orthophotography and periodically updated using 2010 Pictometry and 2011 orthophotos from the state of Maryland. Changes to a land use category for a given polygon are based on planner input from local knowledge. Where possible, the input is corroborated through multiple sources such as orthophotography or Pictometry; however, the final designation lies with the planner and the supporting documentation assigned to that planning area. Existing boundaries are updated to match property boundary changes.
