Location of Marlboro clay throughout Prince George's County, Maryland

This was create originally with a surface modeling program called SURFER into which the top elevations of the clay was entered for numerous locations throughout the County. The data was obtained from Geotechnical Reports submitted in conjunction with development plans. After entering the data into the model projected clay elevations were established throughout the County. That data was then transferred to paper copies of the M-NCPPC topographic maps. Those maps were used to identify the elevations of the clay and that information was transferred over to the current topographic maps on the GIS. This was done by choosing the appropriate arcs for the contour line in a particular area and then making the connections between the lines at an appropriate point to create a polygon coverage. A similar process was used to create the polygons for the evaluation zone which is 10 feet above the clay elevation.
