Prince George's County, Maryland Traffic Analysis Zones
Prince George's County Traffic Analysis Zones - PGTAZ is a geographic designation used by the Prince George's County Planning Department's Transportation Planning staff to suballocate statistical information for input to the Planning Department's travel demand forecasting model (TransForM). This geography is maintained by the Transportation Planning Section and each PG-TAZ is either a COG-TAZ (see the description for COGTAZ) or a subdivision of a COG-TAZ. Each PG-TAZ aggregates to the COG-TAZ geography for which dwelling unit, household, population, and employment estimates are maintained and forecasts developed. There are currently a total of 2,523 TAZs in the entire TransForM modeled region, and 885 of the zones are in Prince George's County. Each zone in the county is uniquely identified by numbers ranging from 640 to 962 and from 2200 to 2761. Coverage Derivation: A consultant working with the Transportation Planning Section created the original digital file containing the PG-TAZ boundaries from the COG TAZ digitized boundary file. The following coverages (layers) were used to adjust the PGTAZ boundaries: COGTAZ, Streams, Muni, Cline, Property, 2000 Aerial, Roadsall and Zoning. In addition, the Transportation Planning Section also sought input from the Research Section and GIS Section to achieve further refinements to the geography and data. The boundaries and attribute data were checked by the Transportation Planning Section staff for quality control.
