Description
Abstract
Special designated roadways for Prince George's County Maryland

Purpose
This layer represents a Countywide depiction of the designated scenic and historic roadways of Prince George's County, which are two elements of Special Roadways as described in the Approved Master Plan of Transportation (December 2009). This layer was created after the completion of the MPOT to consolidate and graphically present the list of historic roadways that were designated as part of the functional master plan process and the "Master List of Scenic and Historic Roads" which included scenic and historic roadways previously designated by action of the County Council. This listing of roadways should be consulted to determine if a development application is located adjacent to a historic or scenic roadway for the following reasons: To evaluate compliance with the policies and strategies for Special Roadways contained in the MPOT; to determine appropriate design for improvements within the right-of-way in accordance with "Guidelines for the Design of Scenic and Historic Roadways in Prince George's County, Maryland" (Prince George's County Department of Public Works and Transportation, February 2007) or as revised in the future; and to determine compliance with Section 4.6 of Prince George's County Landscape Manual, Buffering Development from Special Roadways. This layer was created from information provided by the Environmental Planning Section (EPS), and will be maintained by EPS in response to County Council actions.

Both the Planning Department GIS Section and the Environmental Planning Section were involved in the creation of this layer. The geographic features represent the centerline of the roads which were extracted from the 1:2,400 GIS street centerline layer.
