Abstract 
Surface mining is defined as a type of mining operation where soil and rock covering a desired mineral deposit is removed. The delineation of surface mine activity in the county is based on property boundaries, as well as heads-up digitizing of portions of property utilized for the purpose of mining. The Environmental Planning Section within the Prince George's County Planning Department reviews records of surface mining permits.

Purpose 
To indicate areas where surface mining activity occurs within Prince George's County, Maryland.
